RALEIGH, N.C. — NC State didn’t play on Saturday, but it still rose in the latest Coaches Poll and entered the Associated Press Poll for the first time since Week 8 of the regular season. The Wolfpack came in at No. 23 in the Coaches Poll while the AP Poll slotted State at No. 24 in the country.
After finishing the regular season with four straight wins to come away with an 8-3 record and program-record seven wins in the ACC, State is now ranked in all three major polls. The College Football Playoff Poll, which was released on Tuesday, listed the Wolfpack at No. 23 in the country.
The Pack’s season was a rollercoaster ride, but it finished on a high. Coming off a 4-1 start, State dropped two straight to UNC then Miami — with the later coming in heartbreaking fashion — it swept the month of November and closed out with a 23-13 win on Senior Day over Georgia Tech at home on Dec. 5.
State’s movement up the polls was thanks to its overall record, but also other teams ahead of it underperforming on Saturday. Losses from Colorado and Wisconsin helped the Pack jump forward while State also moved ahead of Texas in the Coaches Poll despite the Longhorns earning a win.
