RALEIGH, N.C. — The Raleigh Convention Center will host its first major event in months, and the first since the facility closed due to COVID-19.
MAPL Raleigh, an annual volleyball tournament, will be the first major event to be held at the Raleigh Convention Center since the facility closed due to the pandemic last year. The tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday.
On Wednesday, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced the state would lift several COVID-19 restrictions.
The tournament format was modified for safety to keep occupancy lower. Under these changes, roughly 10% of who would normally be allowed to play will be allowed on the floor at the same time. No fans, including families of athletes, will be allowed in to watch. All players, coaches and officials will have to wear masks during matches.
