RALEIGH, N.C. — Making a split-second decision for a member of law enforcement is never easy. That’s why Wake Technical Community College is using real-life police calls through a simulator as part of its classes.
The simulator shows what an officer will face. It gives you a chance to respond. In most of the situations, the officers don’t have to use a weapon.
Some of the scenarios played out included a high-speed chase to a suicide attempt and even a hostage situation. The virtual training system is called Fire Arms Training Simulator (FATS). It allows people to react to real-time verbal cues and facial expressions that officers face each and every day.
